We have had a busy but fruitful late-summer and early-fall as a band, but more importantly as a family, and have enjoyed connecting with so many of you at concerts and events.
Most recently we were given the opportunity to play at the Western Open Fiddle and Picking Championships held in Red Bluff, CA.
We performed during an entertainment slot in between the fiddle and picking divisions of the contest. Cody placed 9th in the Junior (12 to 18) on fiddle, quite an accomplishment, as this competition covers the entire western United States, and he also placed 6th in the picking division on banjo. Jesse was awarded 2nd place in picking on mandolin even though he didn't make the top ten in fiddle. (Click here to view all of the results.)
We are purposely taking a much-needed break through the holidays from our normally cram-packed music schedule, but were happy to be asked to play at an MS benefit on November 20th. The Mapes are long-time friends, and because Bonnie has suffered from MS, Jerry, who is a worship pastor, has put together this event which will be hosted at his home church, Redding Christian Fellowship. Jerry is helping to spread the word about the effects of MS on not only those who suffer with the disease, but also how it affects an entire family. Listen for his announcements about the event on local radio stations, including KQMS, and KVIP, and look for his interview in our local paper, the Record Searchlight, about the event. We are privileged to have the opportunity to perform alongside other groups, and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation. We'll be starting at 7:00 pm, and we hope to see many of you there.
We wanted to take this opportunity to share with those of you who are unaware that last January, Randy was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. This was a tremendous surprise to Randy and our entire family, and as he has been battling with progressing symptoms, especially because of the physically demanding work of our family-owned landscape construction business, we continue to look to the Lord as our source of strength and joy during this trial. Jerry will be interviewing Randy about his battle during the MS Benefit Concert. We have just recently opened a special website at Caring Bridge where you can check for regular updates about Randy's health and join us in prayer for him. The Lord is opening some wonderful doors for us in music and other areas that are helping us to be able to move away from landscaping because of his health struggles, and we are thankful to have a buyer for our business that we hope can take over as of the first of the year. We will keep you updated as our journey progresses and as the Lord continues to unfold His future plans for us.
Sincerely,
Lisa for all the Wintons
